Kathmandu, March 18, 2012: The Animal Health Directorate of Nepal has confirmed and contained bird flu at a poultry farm in Dallu, Kathmandu here on Saturday. Hundreds of livestock was disposed after being confirmed of the infection in complain of the owner in view of the disease. Ranga nath Poudyal owner of the farm had reported the death of his chickens on March 13, 2012 where the Directorate tested the chickens in the lab and confirmed the cause of death to be Avian influenza.
According to the Directorate, “As soon as we confirmed the infection, we contained the area; our staffs disinfected and dump the livestock, w e have declared the area a crisis zone. The sighting of infection is growing and people have to careful about their eating habit of where and what they eat. The simple measure to stay safe is to cook the meat well and to handle the meat product with care. From the last year Bird flu infection has been sited in the outskirts of the Capital and similarly district like Jhapa, Panchthar, Ilam and Sunsari districts are under strict surveillance due to the sighting.”
