Brunei Imposes Stoning Punishment for Gay Sex and Adultery

The new penal code was imposed by the Brunei government enforces death by stoning for homo sexuality or adultery that came into effect on Wednesday 3rd April, despite an international rage against the rule. The new penal code was implemented by the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, who also acts as the country’s prime minister. Brunei, adopted the sharia law, the Islamic legal system that imposes strict corporal punishments in 2013. Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah is one of the world’s richest leaders with a personal wealth of about $20bn (£15bn) and has held the throne since 1967. He described the implementation of the new penal code as “a great achievement”.

Brunei, an island of Borneo in Southeast Asia, based its new penal code on Shariah, Islamic law based on the Quran. Brunei has a population of just 430,000 but tremendous oil wealth.
