Bal Krishna Dhungel who was convicted by the supreme court for murdering Ujjain Kumar Shrestha in 1998 has been arrested by a team of Nepal Police and Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) from Satdobato in Lalitpur. His arrest comes in view of contempt of court writ filed case against Inspector General Of Police (IGP) Prakash Aryal where Dhungel was roaming freely despite SC verdict.
Dhungel was presented before Kathmandu District Court in Babarmahal. where he was sent to Dillibazaar prison for 12 years 5 months and 22 days .
Dhungel had murdered Ujjain on June 24, 1998 where later, Shrestha’s brother Ganesh Kumar who had filed a complaint at the District Police Office, Okhaldhunga was also killed by the same group.
He was elected lawmaker in 2008 Constituent Assembly elections. The then Baburam Bhattarai led government in November 2011 had recommended for presidential clemency for Dhungel, but it was rejected by the court.
