ICAAN to issue the new gTLDs by 2013

Amidst huge expansion of the World Wide Web (WWW), internet has been dynamic to it use and operation. From e-marketing to e-heath it has prospered to adapt everything. Like such, the ICAAN, the organization responsible for the coordination of the global Internet’s systems has already opened invitation for registration of the new generic top-level domain (gTLD). gTLDs is one of the categories of top-level domains (TLDs) maintained by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) for use in the Domain Name System of the Internet. gTLDs refers to extensions or suffixes like .org, .IBM, .YOUTUBE or any other characters that can be used in the world wide web that has been recognized and approved by ICAAN.

It has been reported that a total of 911 organizations from North America paid the $185,000 fee to lodge an application, along with 675 from Europe and 303 from the Asia-Pacific region for the new gTLDs. Currently there are 22 generic Top-Level Domains, or gTLDs, in use, including .com, .org, .biz, .net etc.

ICANN said more than 66 application have been filled for geographical locations where most of the others are related to business and trade. Apart from that .app gTLD has been the most in demand for the organization in the techno front where 13 big organizations have applied for the gTLD including Google and Amazon.
