TGIF at TAMAS Friday Time : 10:00 PM

Kathmandu, Nepal: Amidst the glitter and glamour Kathmandu’s party goers have seen a rift in their usual lifestyle of odd hours. Especially on Fridays, Thamel use to be the best place from party hoppers and clubbers but now things have changed, with limited numbers of customers and recession of business most of the restaurant business and clubs are on verge of sacking their staffs or closing down due to lack of business.  The so called hub of Kathmandu, Thamel use to be loud and would sound heavy with different style and genre of music playing all around but now it silence its way in abstractness to be precise Nepal’s clubbing lifestyle is on verge of extinction.

TGIF at TAMAS Friday Time : 10:00 PM

Yes, those were the days of past when teenagers and adults or people of all age groups were seen enjoying the culture of TGIF. But these days with the strict rules and regulation of the Traffic police checking against DRINK and DRIVE Campaign, things have changed completely. People have stopped from drinking and clubbing. “Business has completely gone down. Previously, there use to be people, they use to come out and enjoy on Fridays and business would be good but these days due to the new rule of the traffic police, people are scared of eating and drinking outside. You never know what the police might smell in and you might get caught, “complained owner of Z-bar and club at Thamel.

Clubbing trend in Nepal just started a decade back and now it has gone down by more than 70%. People have stopped drinking and clubbing as there is no limitation in the legal amount of alcohol that you can drink. “It depends upon the police personnel and his nose to decide whether you are drunk or not. It’s not fair; you know how police treat young people. They are rubbish; they don’t even talk to you with manners.  The government should bring in better policies then to bring hard rules. There should be a limitation of the amount of alcohol consumption and they should also bring in alcohol sniffers.” Prakash Shreastha a party hopper added.

The trend of partying and clubbing is not wrong but the trend of have too much alcohol and being irresponsible is wrong. We all support the current government’s new rule in making public safe but is it logical to make such vulnerable rules and regulation on the basis of an unscientific method?  If that’s the case then why then government is not banning Alcohol industry. If the government thinks that alcohol is bad for public then there should be no alcohol policy. The government should close down all the alcohol industry.  The Nepal government’s hypocrisy in showing double standards is really admirable but what they don’t understand is with publicity stunts like these they can get few acclaims but it’s bad against the public policy and understanding which need to be thought and researched.

ISSUED IN PUBLIC INTEREST : Either no alcohol policy or standardization of alcohol consumption rate  is the only scientific Solution
