The 12th Internet Governance Forum (IGF) took place at the United Nations Office at Geneva (Palais des Nations, Avenue de la Paix 14, CH-1211 Geneva 10, Switzerland on the theme, Shape Your Digital Future! from 18 and 21 December 2017.
The 2017 Forum’s “Geneva Messages” Address Core Internet Values, Urge Respect for Long-standing Principles of Transparency, Accountability and Inclusion, and Support Balancing the Free Flow of Data with Data Protection
The programme this year included 4 host country and ceremonial sessions; 8 main sessions; 99 workshops; 45 open forums; 4 individual BPF sessions; 18 individual DC sessions; 8 individual NRIs sessions as well as 14 sessions classified as “other”; and 40 Day 0 events; for a total of 231 sessions in the overall programme (191 if Day 0 events are not counted). 55 booths were featured in the IGF Village.
The meeting was attended by more than 2019 onsite participants, from 142 countries, representing all stakeholder groups and regions.
TheIGF is a global multistakeholder forum that promotes discussions and dialogue about public policy issues related to the Internet. It was convened in 2006 by the United Nations Secretary-General.
