Jeans are forever You stay young with jeans

When talked about most preferred clothing and gussy up, the first thing that hits your mind is jeans. Jeans that is comfortable easy to wear and most importantly acceptable all over in any environment.  Jeans the fabric from its origin is considered as pure work-wear, they have spread through every level of the fashion spectrum, embraced internationally for their unmatched comfort and appeal. Constantly been in demand and have survived the passing of both trends and time, capturing the ethos of each succeeding decade.

The clothing range of jeans has not only been able to win the hearts of people but has created an image of comfort and style. Though jeans are thought to be the range of jagged wear for cowboys but today jeans transcend age, economic and style barriers, and have reached an iconic status. Moreover, whether it is clothing range, music, hairstyles or attitudes, all seem to have a time limit but for jean you live forever…………….

Makes you feel comfortable and adapts to you body in any condition

Fashion, in any category, has often made it across borders, oceans, social classes and genders, but few have made it through time. Jeans have made it through all of the above, and more. They have made the ultimate transition from being a trend to being a classic.

Jeans were called “waist overalls” or just “overalls” until 1960 when Levi Strauss changed it to its popular name of “jeans”. And earlier in its origin in US American cowboys, railroad workers and farmers adopted them for their rugged wear ability.

After the world war II Jeans evolved into rebel wear for teens and then for the hippies.

During the hippie movement of the 60’s, jeans lived on, stronger than ever. They became the virtual uniform of the anti-war movement and were modified to suit the fashion of the decade. The fabric was experimented in different form of psychedelic colors, embroidery and cut-offs and all became new and essential features of the popular clothing.

At this point in time, jeans were known and loved in East of the Atlantic, in countries such as Russia as well. Further modification of jeans into bell-bottom and stone-washed styles allowed the denim trousers to carry their popularity into the 1970’s. Increasing world trade allowed jeans to be made and, hence, sold at lower prices than before, positively affecting sales.

The “Gentrification of Blue Jeans”, in the 1980’s further added to the popularity of the jeans, High fashion designers could no longer ignore the growth of jeans’ popularity and began to adopt them into their collections. The fresh trend involved a worn-out look with holes often torn on purpose. Jeans became as popular among women as men, causing sales to rise further. Jeans were unstoppable; they became part of high-class designer fashion as well as working-class wardrobes. The 90’s were just as good for denim as the time past, with the new style of jeans being baggy.

The design comfort and feasibility of this gussy up has not only made it a popular manifestation of clothing range but has widely defined Jeans as the world’s most popular and versatile garment, crossing boundaries of class, age and nationality.

Denim is the fashion that never runs out

In this legacy of the jeans, Denim stands in a pivotal role, although they are the quintessential American item, denim probably originated from a fabric from Nimmes, France (serge de Nimmes means “of Nimmes” which became denim). Denim is more than a cotton fabric; it is stronger and more expensive than jean, though jeans and denim are similar in some ways, they have one major difference, denim is made of one colored thread and one white thread while jean are woven of two threads of the same color and due to its qualities it inspires strong opinions from historians, designers, teenagers, movie stars, reporters and writers.

In 1969 a writer for American Fabrics magazine declared, “Denim as one of the world’s oldest fabrics, yet it remains eternally young.” If continuous use of and interest in an item makes it “eternally young,” then denim certainly qualifies.

Generally there are two types of jeans, hard and soft, but today the whole jeans industry has hybrid with their charisma springs from their legendary American roots, their commercial strength rests on innovation and interpretation in the hands of jeans-wear makers around the world expanding in varieties of jeans gussy up such as Low-rise, Zippers, Slim cut, Dark denim, Vintage washes, Monkey wash, Stone wash, Rough jeans, Hip hop, Belly bottom, etc.

In Nepal jeans started to appear after 1980’s when globalization was taking its pace, jeans were something which was not popular and available then, the only people who had seen or used it were the people who travel abroad and in their visit, brought it back with them, states Rahul Pradhan a fashion designer.

According to a sales agent Pawan Shrestha, most of jeans garments that available in the market are exported from Thailand and Hong Kong. The common brands of jeans available are Levis, Wrangler, D&G, GAP, Esprit, Bossini, Crocodile, Lacoste, Lee, Dugo, Killer jeans, Good Boy etc.

He further said; varieties of jeans are available ranging from NRS 500 to NRS 8000, according to the brand and design. The prices in the exported jeans are not satisfactory but still the export good always comes at a price where as the Chinese jeans have over flooded the market but still they are durable and low priced.

At present in jeans industry the trend of Ripped of faded jeans with sew on patches or cut off the waistband is getting quit popular, he said.

Though the trend of jeans is currently in exploring but it has started to acquaint its ways through different field expanding its work field to different accessories like bags, hand bangles, jackets, skirts, wallets, Caps etc virtually taking anything in its way.

With every decade and generations, jeans have been adaptive to ensure their continued popularity proving that jeans are considered to be expression of freedom.

All aged group of people prefer to wear jeans in their own style and fashion. The passion of jeans has grown so much that it has been accepted globally as a clothing range in the different countries making it a fabric to be recognized as symbol of human creativity and interest.
