Kathmandu, October 18 2024 – Rabi Lamichhane the former deputy prime minister and the president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) was arrested in connection with the investigation of embezzling cooperatives’ savings money.
The Police on Friday arrested Rabi in connection with an investigation into cooperative fraud and organized crime charges. He was arrested by a police team deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau from his party’s head office in Banasthali, Kathmandu. He is being taken to Pokhara to face trial as the case was filed in Kaski district police.
The police also issued warrants against Bishal Tamang, Navin Achhami, Ravina Rimal, Ashraf Ali Siddiqui, Deepak Lama, Ananta Bahadur Rai, Ram Bahadur Khanal, Devendra Babu Rai, Om Prakash Gurung, Bir Bahadur Rana Bhat, Deepa Neupane and Kalpana Kumari Shrestha.
In connection with case the police also arrested former DIG and the then promoter of Gorkha Media Chhabi Lal Joshi from Kathmandu. Police had earlier recovered software containing data of cooperatives from his house.
It is concluded that the Rs 650 million injected into Gorkha Media was taken in from the embezzling money of the cooperative with forged documents from Suryadarshan from Pokhara, Supreme from Butwal, Swarnalaxmi from Kathmandu, Sahara Chitwan from Chitwan and Sanopaila from Birgunj.
It is believed that GB Rai, Kumar Ramtel, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane , and Chhabi Lal Joshi are held responsible for the fraud who are the signatories in the company’s bank accounts and are involved in financial embezzlement of funds.
