As reported by the Metropolitan Police Crime Division, a total of 650 cases of cyber crime were registered with a month more to go in the current fiscal year while it was only 309 in the previous fiscal year where 90 per cent cyber crime are found to have taken place through facebook.
The Cases of cyber crime have been found to have doubled in the current fiscal year as compared to the previous fiscal year.
“This is major happening due to lack of awareness and lack of internet core values, especially if you look at our knowledge level then it is just limited to what is being fed to us. Our school curriculum are limited within orthodox values and policies that are designed for the 1990. we have outgrown that we use the latest technology and we have policies of 2000 what the use” said Pradeep Kumar Shrestha an Academician.
The rise of Cyber crime is in social media sites like facebook and twitter, in online banking and use of ATM machine.
Nepal has no cyber law and the cyber crimes are govern under Electronic Transaction act 2008 .
Data maintained by the Nepal police shows that there has been a significant rise in cyber crime cases. it was observed that 58 cases of cyber crime in the fiscal 2012-13 followed by 90 in 2013-14 and 309 in 2015-16.
Person involved in cyber crime is liable to a fine of Rs 100,000 or five years in jail or both under Article 47 of the Electronic Transaction Act, 2008.
